Tour Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVAL LIMA
Reception and transfer from the airport to the hotel.  HOTEL IN LIMA

DAY 2: LIMA – CUSCO: CITY TOUR & ARCHAEOLOGICAL RUINS
Early in the morning, after your breakfast, transfer from your hotel to the airport to take a flight to Cusco.  Upon arrival in Cusco, transfer to your selected hotel.  After Lunch, we start to explore the city of Cusco, on a guided tour visiting the main plaza, the Cathedral, and the Temple of the Sun or Koricancha.  We then visit the ruins on the outskirts of the city, stopping at the Inca ritual site of Quenqo, the water temple of Tambomachay, the customs house of Puca Pucara and the impressive Fortress of Saqsaywaman, built strategically on the hill standing over the city of Cusco.  It’s famous for its enormous stone blocks, assembled with incredible precision to form the imposing external walls of the complex. Some of the stones stand 9 meters tall and weigh more than 350 tons. We then return you to your hotel.  In the evening you will have your dinner.  HOTEL IN CUSCO (B/L/D)

DAY 3: SACRED VALLEY
After breakfast we head to The Sacred Valley of the Inca.  The first stop, Pisac, is famous for its  Sunday Mass and daily outdoor market. The excursion is best when taken on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday, when the market is expanded and attracts traders from surrounding communities.  The Sunday mass is held very early in the morning in the native language, Quechua, and is attended by the community elders from neighboring villages, wearing traditional dress. (Note: Special arrangements can be made in private service to witness this weekly religious event, as well as to hike to the impressive Inca ruins of Pisac, which towers above the village.)  After lunch, visit the Inca Citadel at Ollantaytambo, a sprawling complex of ruins characterized by fine masonry, terraces, canals, fortress walls, and the Temple of the Sun.  In the evening you will have your dinner.  HOTEL IN CUSCO (B/L/D)

DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU EXCURSION
Breakfast at the hotel, then pickup and transfer to the train station to board the Orient  Express Expedition or Vistadome Train for the 4-hour journey to Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of Inca.”  Experience these mysterious ruins, with its ingeniously engineered underground  water canalization and its sacred citadel of temples, mausoleums, squares and royal houses.  Widely believed to have been built in the mid-15th century by Inca Pachacutec, Machu Picchu was the secret
city of the Inca, never discovered by the Spanish.  Its rediscovery for the world was made in 1911 by American explorer Hiram Bingham, and it remains South Americ´s most spectacular archaeological site.  Lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge beside the ruins.  Afternoon, return to Aguas Calientes.  In the evening you will have your dinner.  HOTEL IN AGUAS CALIENTES (B/L/D)

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU
After enjoying a buffet breakfast, you returning to the ruins to explore on your own, in relative quiet before other visitors arrive on the train from Cusco.  Taking the earliest bus up from the town will let you witness one of the world’s most  spectacular, iconic sunrises over the Inca ruins.  Lunch at the Mapi Restaurant.  In the evening you will have your dinner.  HOTEL IN AGUAS CALIENTES (B/L/D)

DAY 6: AGUAS CALIENTES - CUSCO
Enjoy a good breakfast and then enjoy the remainder of the morning and early afternoon on your own.  We will meet for lunch at the Mapi Restaurant.  Later we'll  board train for the return to Cusco and our hotel.  In the evening in Cusco you will have your dinner.  HOTEL IN CUSCO (B/L/D)

DAY 7: MARAS Y MORAY EXCURSION
AM: We will head to the ancient Maras salt pans, a stunning patchwork of terraced pools of mineral rich water that cascades down the side of the Qaqawiñay Mountain.  The local inhabitants have  tended the Maras salterns since before the advent of the Inca Empire, producing salt by evaporation.  We will climb down along the crystalline-encrusted ridges of the pools, as our guide provides a  detailed explanation of the ancient salt production process.  From Maras, it is a short drive to Quechuyuc Muyu, the central Inca monument of Moray.  Inca civil engineers constructed the terraced geometric masterpiece from giant natural sink holes during the 15th and early 16th centuries.  Covering 92 acres, the four terraced  amphitheaters — known as Muyus — range from 130 to nearly 400 feet in diameter. The agricultural terraces were fed by a complex drip irrigation system, the remains of which are still clearly visible today.  Small holding reservoirs, hydraulic channels and carved stone “paqcha” conduits controlled the flow of natural spring water to a mathematically precise trickle. Current scientific theory holds that the Inca tested their crop varieties on Moray’s ancient terraces, which still today are known locally as “the greenhouse of the Inca.”  We then return you to your hotel.  In the evening in Cusco you will have your dinner.  HOTEL IN CUSCO (B-L-D)

DAY 8: SOUTH VALLEY TOUR TIPON AND ANDAHUAYLILLAS PIKILLACTA
We will pick you up from your hotel at 09:15 hrs for a guided tour in the South Valley where you can visit the following places: Valle Sur Cusco Tipon: A large area of cultivation containing 12 impressive terraces that are currently cultivated, whose walls were built with finely carved stones.  Even more impressive is the irrigation system that is still serving agriculture and the advantage is making water in the spring season.  Pikillaqta: Presents characteristics of a large urban center  development time for the Wari Empire over a thousand buildings between spaces, Pikillacta Cusco colcas (food stores), tennis or houses, temples, long and narrow streets with buildings that were up to 4 stories high.  Andahuaylillas: Typical Andean village of colonial times of unique origin and architecture.  Andahuaylillas highlighted in the Catholic church from the colonial era with a beautiful decoration and mural painting of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries known as the Sistine Chapel of Cusco. The return pass by Saylla typical Cuzco where people can enjoy the delicious pork rinds (optional).  We then return you to your hotel.  In the evening in Cusco you will have  dinner.  HOTEL IN CUSCO (B-L-D)

DAY 9: CUSCO FREE DAY
Breakfast at the hotel, Free morning.  Lunch in Don Tomas.  Free Afternoon.  In the evening you will have your dinner.  HOTEL IN CUSCO (B/L/D)
