Morocco                            September 11-24, 2023

Morocco is a country of extremes like no other. Morocco is a photographer's dream.

Fez, Marrakech, Casablanca whose streets come alive with exotic spices and the sound of Andalusian music are key to this tour.  On the other hand, we have the dark-skies and tranquility that is found in the Sahara Desert - where we'll watch the sunrise and sunset above some of the highest sand dunes on earth.

We'll get "lost" in our photography in the maze like streets of Morocco’s medieval cities and colonial towns.  This photography tour has been designed to offer us an authentic taste of Morocco and is suitable for all level photographers.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 (Sept. 12) CASABLANCA
Upon arrival in Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, we will be met by our driver in a private vehicle and head to our Casablanca hotel, where we will check-in and rest from our travels.  We will then head to Hassan II Mosque.  This is one of the largest mosques in the world and a photographer's dream building with unique angles and colors.  Loaded with religious and historical significance, it will awe you with its sheer size and incredible architecture.  Smell the salty ocean air as we marvel at the exquisite minaret.  Dinner will be served at the hotel.  Overnight at Hotel Club Val D’Anfa.  (B, L, D)

Day 2: (Sept. 13) CASABLANCA / RABAT / CHEFCHAOUEN
After breakfast, we will depart Casablanca and head to Chefchaouen.  Along the way, we will enjoy a short driving visit to Rabat, the capital city and residence of the King.  A lunch stop will be on the route. We will continue the journey along the coast before heading up through the Rif mountains towards your destination of Chefchaouen, the famous blue city of Morocco.  Picture a city where almost everything is a cool shade of blue!  Dinner will be served in the hotel.  Overnight at Dar Echchaouen.  (B, L, D)

Day 3: (Sept. 14) CHEFCHAOUEN
After breakfast, we will enjoy Free time to photograph this “cool” blue town, tucked away in the mountains.  This town is a photographer’s heaven!  Stop for delicious fresh bread and hot mint tea as you tour.  Lunch will be in a local restaurant.  Another option is to take a hike in the breezy mountains. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.  Overnight at Dar Echchaouen.  (B, L, D)

Day 4: (Sept. 15) CHEFCHAOUEN / FES
Before breakfast, we will want to climb up the edge of the mountain for a beautiful shot of this small Berber town.  After breakfast, we will set off directly to Fes, the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant along the journey.  In the evening, we will have a visit to the Ramparts of Fes for some spectacular overlook of the medina shots.  Dinner will be served in the Riad.
Overnight at Riad Myra.  (B, L, D)

Day 5: (Sept. 16) FES (1/2 Day Guide Medina Tour)
Half day devoted to exploring the walled-in city, or medina, of Fes. After breakfast, our tour begins. While no cars are allowed, we’ll see donkeys in the old city, shops with piles of vibrant spices, and storehouses heaped high with hand-woven carpets in every color and design possible.  We’ll hear the call to prayer, reminding the people to carry out their religious duties.  This is a chance to see the real Fes.  Our guide will be happy to offer information and explanation for the stops we’ll make.  Some of the other places we’ll visit will be the tanneries, the King’s Palace, and the potters.  After winding our way deep into the medina, we’ll get to have lunch in the heart of the medina.  In the Afternoon we will return to our guesthouse and have some free time to enjoy some shots on our own.  Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.  Overnight at Riad Myra.  (B, L, D)

Day 6: (Sept. 17) FES (Photo Shoot & Free day)
In the morning we will enjoy a PHOTO SHOOT with a handful of local models in traditional dress that come to the riad.  The rest of the day will be a free day to explore and capture Fes on our own.  Lunch will be served at our convenience.  Whether we visit the potters, King’s palace, or just wander for candid photos, Fes is worth the extra day.  Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.  Overnight at Riad Myra.  (B, L, D)

Day 7: (Sept. 18) FES / ERFOUD/ MERZOUGA (Approx. 10 hrs. Drive)
After an early breakfast, we will begin your ascent across the Middle Atlas Mountains.  Most of the day will be spent winding your way through the beautiful forests, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as we cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert.  Halfway, we will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks.  In the afternoon, we will make our way down along the Ziz River Valley.  The buildings will fade into a dusty pink as we make your way towards the Sahara Desert.  Listen as our driver shares his vast knowledge about the landscape and sceneries before us.  Depending upon our arrival time to the hotel we could enjoy some sunset pictures over the dunes.  Sunrise and sunset at the dunes is well worth the visit.  Overnight at Riad Madu.  (B, L, D)

Day 8: (Sept. 19) SAHARA DESERT
Don’t miss the sunrise on the dunes.  In the morning, we will have a 4x4 ride around the dunes and a visit to the Nomadic Berber Villages.  Listen to some Gnawa music while we get some candid photos.  Lunch will be in one of these small village locations.  In the early afternoon, we will be driven by SUV across the barren land to the majestic Sahara sand dunes and Tented camp where we will enjoy a 30-minute camel trek and pictures of the camel train with the sunset as a backdrop before returning to the tents for the night.  Authentic Superior Camp.  (B, L, D)

Day 9: (Sept. 20) SAHARA / TODRA GORGES / KASBAH AIT BEN HADDOU
From the desert, we will take the SUV back to meet up with our driver.  Together, we will head towards
Ouarzazate.  Along the route, we will enjoy a visit to the Todra Gorges (600 ft high).  The towering cliffs and beautiful palm tree valley make this a picturesque drive.  Lunch will be served along the route.  After Ouarzazate we will head out to the Kasbah Ait Benhaddou where we will be ready for the sunset and sunrise.  In typical Moroccan fashion, the true treasures must be searched for and discovered...usually off the beaten path.  In actuality, this setting has been used for more films than any other location in Morocco; films including, Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, The Gladiator and more recently, Game of Thrones.  Dinner will be served at the Kasbah.  Overnight at Kasr Ighanda.  (B, L, D)

Day 10: (Sept. 21) KASBAH AIT BENHADDOU/ MARRAKECH
We wake early for some more sunrise pictures over the Kasbah.  After breakfast, we will continue our journey to Marrakech.  Lunch will be enjoyed on this scenic route of the Tich-n-Tichka Pass.  Once in Marrakech, we will check into our hotel.  In the evening we will head to the square of the medina, the famous Jemaa el-Fna.  This is one of the highlights of Marrakech.  Coming alive at night with the local storytellers, entertainers, and mouth-watering barbeque pits, the square is well worth a visit.  If you would rather sit and observe, you might enjoy a quiet cup of tea on a terrace overlooking the square.  Dinner will be served at the riad.  Overnight at Riad Chergui.  (B, L, D)

Day 11: (Sept. 22) MARRAKECH (1/2 Day Guided Medina Tour & Gardens)
After breakfast, we will have a guided tour of Marrakech, the southern pearl of Morocco.  This city should be on every traveler’s bucket list.  We will discover the Palace of the Bahia, Maison de La Photographie, Majorelle Gardens and many other hidden treasures.  Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.  The rest of the day you will enjoy Photographing Marrakech on our own.  Dinner will be served in a local restaurant.  Overnight at Riad Chergui.  (B, L, D)

Day 12: (Sept. 23) MARRAKECH/ EL JDIDA/ CASABLANCA
After breakfast, we will drive to Casablanca but will enjoy a stop-over in El Jdida.  In El Jdida we will visit the Portuguese citadel and see the underground cistern (Photographer's delight with the different lighting angles).  We will enjoy lunch in El Jdida.  After lunch, we will head up along the coast to Casablanca.  We will then continue on to Casablanca, where we will spend our last night in the country.  Dinner will be served at Rick’s Café, a replica similar to the restaurant in the movie Casablanca.  Overnight at Hotel Club Val D’Anfa.  (B, L, D)

Day 13: (Sept. 24) CASABLANCA / DEPART (B)
After breakfast, and at the appropriate time, our driver will take us to the airport in good time for departure.  Safe travels!  (B)
